LOOK: Michigan adds sign to weight room to fuel rivalry with Ohio State

The Michigan program is trying to motivate its players in the weight room by reminding them of the Ohio State rivalry with a new sign.

The folks up at Michigan might finally be getting it. After years and years of not putting as much emphasis on winning “The Game” between Ohio State and Michigan as the Buckeye program has, there are finally signs (literally) of life.

According to a Tweet shared on Twitter by Bucknuts, Michigan has added signage to its weight room to remind players about the rivalry.

For Ohio State, it has been arguably a way of life ever since Jim Tressel pulled on the sweater vest and took over the headset in Columbus. His emphasis on the rivalry was a welcome change to the kid gloves approach his predecessor John Cooper seemed to employ.

That didn’t change with Urban Meyer and on through what Ryan Day is doing with the program today. It is well known that the Buckeyes work on Michigan every day in practice, have a countdown clock to The Game, and often use the Michigan Block M as motivation with mat drills and other team activities.

Now Michigan is getting into the act with a sign that reads: “What are you doing to beat Ohio State today?”

Many Wolverine fans have criticized Jim Harbaugh and the program for not putting enough emphasis on beating Ohio State, and rightfully so. Harbaugh is 0-5 against the Buckeyes, and even further than that, Michigan has lost the last eight and dropped fifteen of the last sixteen against OSU.

So yeah, maybe a change is needed and afoot. Now, all that’s left is to actually win a game against the arch-rival to stir things up a bit.

We won’t hold our breath. But hey, remember when TTUN used to declare that the game against Michigan State meant more? Yeah, that ship sailed about two decades ago.
