When Maalik Murphy committed to Texas, the one major question surrounding him was how we would perform in game competition. The current junior had never been the official starting quarterback and had earned his five-star rating from 7v7 and camps.
The long-awaited debut for Murphy to be a starting quarterback is over. Gardena Serra opened its spring season on Friday night after COVID-19 canceled football in the fall.
His final stat line read as such: 19-32 with two touchdowns and two interceptions on the night. On paper, not the greatest performance. However, there are full highlights below and you can judge for yourself.

Murphy’s development over the next year is going to be the biggest story surrounding Texas recruiting. He is seen as a project that will take at least a couple of years to develop. If anyone can do it, Steve Sarkisian is the guy.
