Houston Rockets star James Harden has a new look for the new year.
In the team’s first game of 2020, Harden emerged just before tipoff of Friday’s game versus Philadelphia with braided hair and a headband.
The NBA’s scoring leader had worn a hoodie during his pregame shooting work on the Toyota Center court to conceal the change.
Known best for his long beard, Harden has become renowned over the years for his bold fashion choices and accessories. In October, the Rockets literally rolled out a red carpet runway for Harden and his teammates before the regular-season home opener.

Friday’s new look was accompanied by throwback uniforms from the 1990s, which the Rockets wear each Friday game as part of a Flashback Friday theme honoring the 25th anniversary of the 1994-95 title team.

As far as the Rockets (23-11) are concerned, all that truly matters is whether Harden — braids and headband, or otherwise — can maintain his historic levels of production. Harden entered Friday averaging 38.2 points per game in the 2019-20 season to date, which would be the highest season total of any NBA player in 56 years and the most ever by a guard.
The former MVP is also in the league’s top 10 in assists at 7.5 per game.
Harden was recently named West Player of the Month for December games, with the Rockets winning 10 of the 14 games in which he played.
