On Saturday, Michigan football’s early enrollees started trickling in from all over the country, from East Lansing (MI) wide receiver Andrel Anthony to Del Valle (TX) running back Tavierre Dunlap.
But one midyear arrival stands out more than others.
Long have Michigan fans waited for Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy — the linchpin of the 2021 recruiting class — to get to Ann Arbor, and it appears he’s finally arrived. As several new Wolverines have posted that they’ve made it to campus, McCarthy took it another step further, showing off his new Michigan football locker and practice jersey now that he’s officially enrolled and in Schembechler Hall.
It also appears that he may wear No. 9 once the season comes, but of course that could change by the time it arrives.

As Michigan’s second commitment in the 2021 recruiting class, it’s been a long time coming for McCarthy.
Brentwood (TN) Ravenwood four-star linebacker Junior Colson — the highest-rated defensive commitment in the class — also tweeted on Saturday morning that he’s made it to campus. But one early-enrollee won’t make it right away, as four-star running back Donovan Edwards’ West Bloomfield team beat Belleville (MI) on Saturday in overtime, ensuring he has another week before he reports to college.
