Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson is making a change to his jersey number following the NFL’s new jersey rules, which allows him to make the switch from No. 39 to No. 4.
Jackson previously wore No. 4 at Alabama. But when he was drafted by Chicago in 2017, he chose No. 39 since defensive backs weren’t allowed to wear single-digit jersey numbers.
That changed this offseason, which allowed some more freedom with jersey numbers for several positions. Defensive backs, who used to be limited to numbers between 20-49, are now allowed to choose numbers from 1-49. That opened the door for Jackson to make the switch back to his old college number.
The Bears Twitter account shared a first look at Jackson donning his new No. 4 jersey.
