Some things never change. In a season of utter disappointment, the Chicago Bears’ defense remained the one constant on a 8-8 team. The Bears’ defense finished the 2019 season as a top-five unit — and that was without some of the anchors of their defense, including defensive tackle Akiem Hicks.
Hicks suffered an elbow injury against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5, and he was placed on injured reserve soon after.
While Hicks did return off injured reserve for what was an important divisional contest against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15, Hicks re-aggravated the elbow injury that held him out most of the season.
In his first three seasons with the Bears, Hicks was the picture of health, as he didn’t miss a game due to injury. Chicago certainly missed Hicks’ presence in on defense in 2019, but he should be returning in full health for the 2020 season.
Hicks shared an injury update on Instagram, where he can be seen lifting weights for the first time without a brace.
“Schedule release got my elbow feelin better!” Hicks wrote. “Long way to go but this was my first bench without a brace so I’m proud.”
