During the quarantine period, Lonzo Ball and his brothers took part in the social justice movements in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. The trio took part in a protest in Chino Hills and shared messages on social media in support of the movement.
In the bubble, Ball sported the phrase “Equality” on the back of his jersey. He spoke about the importance of spreading light on the situation when speaking to the media about joining the movement. In Sunday’s episode of “Ball in the Family,” he talked more about his decision to have a phrase on the back of his jersey.
“You know, Black Lives Matter and equality is a big thing. I have it on my jersey as well. I figure everybody knows my last name is Ball. Hopefully now everybody knows what equality is at some point.”
Ball, teammate JJ Redick and Saints linebacker Demario Davis all joined the Social Justice Leadership Coalition during the global lockdown, though nothing has come of the coalition so far. Still, Ball has been outspoken on the matter, a surprisingly positive change given his typical quiet manner off the court.
