Lonzo Ball’s relationship with his father LaVar has been a tumultuous one at times in recent years. At times, the two have not been on speaking terms, largely dating back to the Alan Foster embezzlement situation early last year. The fallout from that included an argument between father and son with the former calling the latter “damaged goods.”
The two sides eventually mended fences and the relationship is back to normal. Though it does not appear that Lonzo is willing to commit to Big Baller Brand moving forward, he is still supportive of the company. In the latest episode of “Ball in the Family,” the focus of the episode is on the Black Lives Matter movement.
Lonzo and his brothers were active in the social justice protests. While LaVar did not join the protests, he supported his sons in doing so. Behind the scenes, LaVar worked on selling masks with social justice messages on them, leading Lonzo to be particularly complimentary of his father for stepping up in his own way.
“I’m proud of my dad for stepping in there and showing support for the movement. He’s definitely a powerful black figure in today’s world so anything he says is going to get out there and I’m glad he’s supporting the right message.”
As Lonzo notes, LaVar is an influential figure as a business-owning black man. His words carry weight, no matter what he says. Him supporting the Black Lives Matter movement matters.
