The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had a ton of participants in the NBA slam dunk contest over the years, and only once has one of their own won the contest. That was in 1997 when an 18-year-old Kobe Bryant emerged victorious.
Dwight Howard, who had won the contest in 2008, took part in it during the 2019-20 season, but before that, Shannon Brown was the only Laker to compete in the contest after Bryant took home the hardware in his rookie season.
In 2024, however, the Purple and Gold could have a representative at the dunk contest. Guard Lonnie Walker IV said during an interview at the NCAA Final Four that he’s “strongly considering” taking part in it next season (h/t The Cold Wire).

Earlier in the season, when Walker was a regular starter for L.A., he was one of the team’s leaders in dunks, and one of his nicknames is even “skywalker.” However, he will be a free agent this summer, so he may be representing another team at the 2024 dunk contest, which will take place in Indianapolis.
