Just days ago, it seemed inevitable that Michigan football would be getting its first 2022 commitment in quite some time, with St. Louis (MO) University four-star safety Isaac Thompson set to make his decision on Dec. 4.

But that changed in a hurry.

Though he had a 100% 247Sports Crystal Ball indicating that he would end up in Ann Arbor, starting on Thursday, a flurry of picks came in either submitting doubt that Thompson would become a Wolverine, or that he would pick hometown Mizzou. According to Rivals’ EJ Holland, the maize and blue made something of a full court press on the No. 133 player in the country. However, on Friday, the worst fears were realized, with the nation’s No. 10 safety opting to stay home and play for the Missouri Tigers.

The 2022 class remains at three-strong, with the two latest commits coming in the month of September. With Thompson off the board, Michigan will likely target Chesapeake (VA) Oscar Smith three-star Sherrod Covil or Naples (FL) three-star Devin Moore — who hails from the same school as current Michigan defensive back Sammy Faustin.

Sherrone Moore was Thompson’s primary recruiter for the maize and blue.
