Longhorns Wire Roundtable: Is this Tom Herman’s most critical stretch?

The Texas Longhorns will begin their final stretch run next Saturday. Is this the most important three-game run for Tom Herman?

Does Texas need to run the table?

Following the unexplainable loss to TCU at home, I’d argue that each game from then forward has had the same level of importance in regards to Herman’s future at Texas. That particular contest showcased an undisciplined squad who committed bonehead penalties and turnovers at crucial moments in the game. Herman was extremely outcoached and there’s simply no reason that Texas should have lost that game.

That’s what put the target on Herman’s back. The Longhorns dropped the next game to their conference rivals in Oklahoma, but that is typically an unpredictable game each season so i’ll let that one slide. It’s odd to think that Texas hasn’t truly beaten a team outside of Baylor and UTEP. The Longhorns squeaked by with an overtime win at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State then barely held on to West Virginia at home.

In my honest opinion, Herman continues to present familiar failures each season. His team can hang with the best in the nation, but are seemingly completely unprepared to face lesser opponents. Texas needs a disciplined, proven and well-respected coach to lead this program. Insert Urban Meyer.

If Herman has any hope of continuing his career in Austin, he must run the table against Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State to have a chance at the Big 12 title. I wouldn’t accept anything less at this point.
