Longhorns in the NFL: Texas Exes in the playoffs

When the weekend kicked off, nine former Texas players were gunning for championship weekend. Two now remain.

There are now two former Longhorns left.

The NFL playoffs opened with nine remaining Texas Exes playing for the ultimate goal of a Lombardi Trophy.

Malcolm Brown and the Los Angeles Rams faced off with the top-seeded Green Bay Packers. The game stayed relatively close throughout, but the Pack were too much for the Rams, winning 32-18.

In the nightcap, one former Texas player for the Buffalo Bills hasn’t played recently, but Duke Thomas joined the team on Jan. 1 as part of the practice squad.

Thomas’ team faced off against the Baltimore Ravens, which featured three former Longhorns: Devin Duvernay, DeShon Elliott and Justin Tucker. It wouldn’t go the Ravens way; they fell to Buffalo 17-3 in the opening game of the divisional round.

In the first game on Sunday, Alex Okafor and the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Cleveland Browns. The winner earned a game against Buffalo in the AFC Championship game next week. The Chiefs outlasted the Browns 22-17. Patrick Mahomes ended up leaving the game with a concussion in the second half.

The final game featured the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The winner would head to Green Bay for the NFC Championship game. Three former Longhorns are on New Orleans: Malcom Brown, Malcolm Roach and Lil’Jordan Humphrey. The Bucs defeated the Saints 30-20. Neither Roach or Humphrey participated in the game.
