Local star commits to Vols.

KNOXVILLE — The coronavirus pandemic might have brought the University of Tennessee’s 2020 baseball season to a premature end, but recruiting never stops and the Volunteers secured a verbal commitment from an up-and-coming high school star.

Bearden High School’s Brooks Wright announced his intentions to play for the Vols upon graduating in 2024.

Wright is a Perfect Game All-American and is a two-way player. He plays catcher when not on the mound.

The Vols were 15-2 when the Southeastern Conference and the University of Tennessee canceled the remaining games of the 2020 campaign.

The Vols returned to national prominence in 2019, going 40-21 and making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.
