The work of a walk-on often goes unnoticed, but their day-in, day-out presence can make a monumental difference. And sometimes, as we saw with Will Loughlin last season, they can even earn themselves a scholarship.
With Cody Mains and Amondo Miller returning, a new class of Colorado men’s basketball walk-ons is slowly coming together. On Friday, BuffZone’s Pat Rooney reported that Monarch High School graduate Greg Gerhardt will make the short drive from Superior to join the program next season.
Gerhardt, who stands an impressive 6-foot-10, averaged 9.5 points during his senior season in 2020-21 and was a first-team All-Front Range League selection as well.
Here’s what Gerhardt said about his new opportunity (h/t BuffZone):
“Ever since I was a kid I’d come up here and watch games,” Gerhardt said. “When coach (Mike) Rohn called me and said there might be a chance to join the team, it was kind of a no-brainer. It wasn’t a very hard decision to make.”
