Local man Lionel Messi goes to grocery store

Messi be shoppin’

There’s no other way to put it: Lionel Messi is out here shopping for groceries.

A couple of days before being officially presented as an Inter Miami player, Messi hit up the store for a couple of things. The greatest soccer player of all time, a man idolized by literally billions who has fundamentally changed the game of soccer and how we look at it, is also a man who goes to Publix to buy Reese’s Puffs cereal.

There he is, with a shopping cart that probably doesn’t roll 100% straight. Do you think he got a cart that wasn’t stuck to the one in front of it? Or did he give it a tug, find that it was trapped in the cart corral, and move to the next one? He’s going to make $50-60 million a season playing for Miami.

What kind of music was the Publix playing as Messi walked by a wall of hard seltzers? Maybe some Steve Winwood? The store I go to has played Fleetwood Mac three of the last four times I went over there. Do you think Messi thinks Rumours still slaps? Did Sergio Agüero recommend this particular Publix location?

It looks like Messi skipped the self-checkout line for a standard one. That makes sense, the self-checkout at most places doesn’t work quite right. Messi recently said he plans on taking his time in MLS seriously.

Someone in the Messi household loves breakfast cereal. Can’t wait for them to discover Count Chocula once October rolls around. Messi will make his debut for Miami against Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup next Friday.

Lionel Messi is in the United States, buying various cereals at a Publix on a Thursday. That’s what’s going on.
