Local Cleveland channel to broadcast classic Browns games in lieu of no preseason

It beats not having any football to watch

This would have been the week of the third Cleveland Browns preseason game. It’s left a void in the traditional summer viewing habits for football fans. That hole is also prominent in the team’s broadcast partners and their scheduling.

Hoping to fill that void, WEWS TV, Channel 5 in Cleveland, is going to air some Browns classics instead. Mike Mossholder of the Haslam Sports Group revealed the news and the games in a press release,

“While there are no preseason games this year, we are thrilled to provide Browns fans this unique opportunity to relive memorable games and moments from past seasons. Along with ‘Building the Browns’ and ‘Browns Countdown,’ we look forward to continuing to offer fans exceptional programming on News 5 that provides them more access to the team as excitement continues to build for the upcoming season.”

The series started with Cleveland’s win over the Atlanta Falcons from 2002 that clinched the team’s only playoff berth in the 21st century. Upcoming on the docket:

  • Baker Mayfield’s debut against the New York Jets from 2018
  • The blowout win over the defending champion Giants in Week 6 of 2008

Classic Browns football is better than no preseason football!
