Lively discussion develops from Pac-12, Big Ten, SEC perspectives

A fun discussion on a lot of bad news.

The news in college sports — mirroring the news in the United States and the world in 2020 — remains very bad. We can’t ignore that fundamental point. We can’t wish it away or somehow remove it from existence. We can’t banish that point from our minds. Bad news is our reality right now, and there will be plenty of bad news in the months ahead. Maybe at some point America can dig out of this mess, but with people suffering and our leadership class so obviously stuck in paralysis (some of it chosen through avarice, some of it blundered into by incompetence), good news is not imminent or just around the corner. We are going to continue to suffer for months. We would be lucky at this rate to see our national ship of state turn in the right direction in 12 months.

When the news is bad, human beings can’t pretend everything is good, but what we can do is maintain good cheer and a sense of humor; not take ourselves too seriously; and have honest, sincere discussions about the world we live in, pointing a reasonable path ahead of us without indulging in unrealistic fantasies.

Do you want to listen to 20 or 25 minutes of that kind of discussion? I have just the thing for you.

T.J. Rives, the sideline radio reporter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, hosts the 3 Dog Thursday sports podcast every week. This week, he had me on along with Detroit sports radio host Dan Leach and Alabama sportscaster Chris Stewart to discuss the chaos in college sports from Pac-12, Big Ten, and SEC perspectives. Dan and Chris made thoughtful, well-informed points. T.J. steered the conversation with his typically deft touch.

I discussed a number of ideas which I have written about recently here at Trojans Wire, particularly this one here and this one over here.

Enjoy some good conversation in the midst of bad news. It’s a welcome break from the insanity which surrounds us.
