There’s just one obstacle remaining. Topple the LSU Tigers (33-2, 15-1 SEC) and the Iowa Hawkeyes (31-6, 15-3 Big Ten) will be 2023 national champions.
Of course, that will be a difficult task against a talented LSU team. The Tigers have lost just twice this season and beaten Hawaii, Michigan, Utah, Miami and Virginia Tech en route to the title game.
Led by guard Alexis Morris’s 27 points and forward Angel Reese’s 24 points, LSU erased a 12 point Virginia Tech lead and used a monster fourth quarter to top the Hokies, 79-72. LSU outscored Virginia Tech 29-13 in the final frame as Kim Mulkey guided the Tigers into the program’s first national championship game in just her second season at the helm.
Like the challenge before it against South Carolina, LSU’s size will pose one of the largest challenges for Iowa. The Tigers collected 15 offensive rebounds and registered 24 second chance points against Virginia Tech.
Operating on a quick turnaround, here’s what Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder said about Virginia Tech.
