Another member of the Detroit Lions draft class of 2021 has inked his rookie contract. Seventh-round pick Jermar Jefferson, a running back from Oregon State, signed with the Lions just before the team’s rookie minicamp kicked off on Friday.
It’s a four-year deal for Jefferson, with the terms locked in by the latest collective bargaining agreement that effectively ended the rookie holdouts several years ago.
Jefferson is expected to challenge for the No. 3 running back position, which has opened up after the Lions released Kerryon Johnson. Undrafted rookies Rakeem Boyd and Dedrick Mills are also in the rookie minicamp this weekend and are Jefferson’s primary competition for the third RB spot behind D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.
