The Lions made a rare in-division trade with the Minnesota Vikings to move up to the twelfth overall pick and select wide receiver Jameson Williams.
Williams was once considered to be the top wide receiver in this draft class prior to him tearing his ACL in the college football championship game.
With Detroit, Williams will first have to prove he is healthy and ready to play. If he is not, new free-agent signing DJ Chark will take the reigns at starting outside receiver alongside Josh Reynolds while Amon-Ra St. Brown mans the slot.
The Lions wouldn’t have traded their draft capital to take Williams unless they thought he’d be part of their long-term plans. Once he’s fully recovered and cleared to play, he should be a mainstay of Detroit’s offense for the foreseeable future.
Williams stands tall at 6’2” and 189 pounds, making him larger than most receivers that Detroit has rostered. With most of their receiving corps on short-term deals, Williams will be a player to build around.
