If you were hoping for Lincoln Riley and Deion Sanders to throw barbs at each other or get under each other’s skin, sorry. You have been — and will be — disappointed.
Whereas Oregon coach Dan Lanning made a viral pregame speech before facing Deion Sanders, leaning into the idea that Colorado was getting undue hype and media attention, Lincoln Riley feels no need to play that kind of game. Perhaps the fact that Colorado got its doors blown off by Oregon played a role in this, but one highly suspects that Riley was going to play it cool regardless of the outcome of the Colorado-Oregon game.
It’s not Riley’s style to throw arrows at the coaches he competes against. He likes it quiet. He doesn’t give opposing coaches bulletin board material, given that he is an introvert and not a pot-stirrer by nature. He straightforwardly praised Deion Sanders for the job he is doing at Colorado.
Deion, meanwhile, sees the results Riley has delivered in his collegiate coaching career and can only respect them.
This is a lovefest, folks. Move along. Nothing to see here.
We will see how much drama there is on the field on Saturday. There won’t be any drama off it.
USC hopes to reduce the on-field drama once the game starts in Boulder.
Lincoln Rileyâs thoughts on the job Deion Sanders has done:
âHe seems to be very genuine in his approach. ⊠Regardless of what your characteristics are, of your personality, if youâre yourself you can be a great leader. He certainly seems to do that.âhttps://t.co/u0Hk26JXes pic.twitter.com/QJZL6j8Oa2

The utmost respect for Lincoln Riley from Deion Sanders, who today called Riley âone of the upper-tier coachesâ and âa bona fide winnerâ.
âI admire him tremendously,â Sanders said.
