Winning a Big 12 championship each year of your tenure, having Heisman finalists in each of the past four seasons, and yet to miss the College Football Playoff will send you up the coaching totem poll pretty quickly.

Sporting News named Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley the fourth-best coach in the country.  Named the third-best coach prior to last season, Riley was passed only by LSU’s Ed Orgeron who jumped 12 spots following one of the most dominant seasons a college football team has ever put together.

Once again on the Mt. Rushmore of coaches, Riley is in elite company alongside Alabama’s Nick Saban and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney.

With three-straight 12-win seasons, Riley is one of the hottest names every offseason for teams both in the collegiate and NFL ranks, but Riley seems to be very content in building what he has going on in Norman, Oklahoma.

Riley leads the way for Big 12 coaches as Texas’ Tom Herman comes in at No. 16, TCU’s Gary Patterson at No. 17, and Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy at No. 20.
