The impatience of USC fans — a good and appropriate impatience, it should be said — is being manifested in a number of ways after the bad showing against Arizona State. One central expression of restlessness among the fan base: Give Raesjon Davis more reps at linebacker.
First things first: Mason Cobb, who did not play particularly well against ASU, needed some work. He needed to get back into game-playing shape after missing the previous two games with an injury and having not played since the August 26 season opener versus San Jose State. The coaches were right to give Cobb a lot of work so that he can shake off the rust and be better later in the season.
However, that work came at the expense of Davis, who definitely needs to get a lot more playing time and could become a very important part of this defense if given the chance.
Lincoln Riley, as shown below, claims to hear the fan base and knows he needs to make sure Davis gets a legitimate shot to play a major role on this defense. We will see how many reps he gets this Saturday against Colorado:
Riley's full quote: "It's a room we feel like we have a lot of great guys with. Guys like Raesjon and Shane have played really well in other guys' absence, and we still want to keep those guys very involved."

USC win over ASU felt like a loss in many ways.
Alex Grinch is not quieting his critics, and bigger tests await.
