You have to wonder how long Vegas is going to let the Iowa Hawkeyes and those following them in any sort of fashion get away with this. Another week, another incredibly low total set by the oddsmakers.
This week’s matchup of the Hawkeyes versus the Illinois Fighting Illini sees the total sitting at 30.5 heading into the weekend. Iowa has a lot on the line in this one, namely the Big Ten West title, while Illinois looks to hit the six-win mark.
Ahead of kickoff, CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has Iowa among his best bets to make in Week 12. The Hawkeyes’ inclusion among Palm’s best bets has become a bit of a weekly recurrence as he continues to dare them to go over the total.
The total for an Iowa game has foolishly crept back above the Ferentz Line. The 22 points in the Rutgers-Iowa game last week — all scored by the Hawkeyes — were the highest total in four weeks in a Hawkeyes’ tilt. That is still way off of this number. Pick: Under 30.5 – Jerry Palm, CBS Sports
It is hard to knock Palm’s logic here. The Hawkeyes are a machine at going under the total set. Their last four games have failed to even surpass the 22-point mark, let alone another score or two on top of it.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa will enter 8-2 (5-2 Big Ten) while Illinois is 5-5 (3-4 Big Ten).
