Well, that makes Saturday a whole lot less interesting.
With No. 2 Arizona looming, the Colorado Buffaloes failed to take care of what was right in front of them on Thursday night: Arizona State. I’ll admit that my mind was initially wandering towards the Wildcats, but Tad Boyle was clear in saying the Buffs’ 82-65 loss to an 11-16 Sun Devils team wasn’t due to a simple overlook.
Instead, Boyle blamed the poor concentration and a lack of effort for arguably CU’s biggest gut-punch loss of the season. “We were lifeless,” Boyle said.
Colorado allowed four Sun Devils to score double-digit points en route to shooting 49% from the field and 52% from deep. On the boards, the Buffs were also outrebounded by 12 – a rare sight to see at the Events Center.
“I was hoping that our guys could maybe care enough to rebound the ball and execute a defensive game plan but we were we were lifeless,” Boyle said.
If 20 wins is a needed number for the NCAA Tournament, that bar now feels miles away for the now 18-10 Buffs, who have just two regular season games remaining. Let’s just hope Evan Battey and the injured Elijah Parquet get the send-off they deserve on Saturday.
