LiAngelo ‘performed at a higher level’ than James Borrego expected

Though he didn’t make the Hornets roster, LiAngelleft an impact on James Borrego.

Despite not making the Charlotte Hornets roster, LiAngelo Ball proved he could play at an NBA level during his time with the Hornets at NBA summer league.

On Monday at Media Day, Hornets coach James Borrego was asked about his thoughts on LiAngelo and why he didn’t make the roster.

“I don’t manage the roster, I’ll leave that for Mitch. LiAngelo did a good job at summer league, I can say that,” Borrego said. “As a basketball coach, I thought he did a heck of a job for the time that we had him here.”

In fives games with the Hornets during summer league, LiAngelo averaged 9.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 34.5% from 3-point range

“I’m comfortable with LiAngelo and the way he played. I thought he got better during that period,” Borrego said. “I can only speak for what he did on the floor in Vegas and I thought he performed well and he opened eyes and he performed at a higher level than I expected.”

Will we see LiAngelo with the Hornets down the road? Borrego didn’t rule it out.

“What happens down the future with LiAngelo, I don’t have that answer.”
