Lego Atari 2600 set announced, will release next month

The 2,532-piece set includes buildable cartridges, case holders, and more.

Perhaps nothing is more wonderfully nostalgic than Lego sets. Well, aside from maybe retro consoles like the Atari 2600. Now, imagine: combing both into one brilliant package.

On Tuesday, Lego announced the Atari 2600 set. It looks just like the original 1977 console, complete with adjustable joysticks, and even contains buildable cartridges of iconic games such as Asteroids, Centipede, and Adventure. Much more authentic than most weird video game tie-in merch. Wilder still, there are even three tiny dioramas representing each title. For example, the Asteroids miniature shows a spaceship blowing up space rocks. You know, as things should be!

Watch the Lego Atari 2600 announcement teaser below. Loads of loving thought and care clearly went into this beautiful old-school nod.

There’s also a small gallery worth flipping through, especially to see the (extremely cool) fold-out basement setup.

Unsurprisingly, the 2,532-piece set is part of Lego’s 18+ icon line. After all, most people into this sort of thing were probably toddlers when the Atari 2600 came out. Not that I’m calling out any older folks or anything like that.

The Lego Atari 2600 set will be available on Aug. 1, 2022, for $239.99 and sold exclusively through Lego’s store. There aren’t any pre-order options, so you better get up bring and early on release day to get this one.
