Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will be back in the postseason after missing the playoffs last year for the first time in 13 years but for the first time in a long time, LeBron will not be disconnecting from the internet and doing his typical “Zero Dark 23” social media blackout. The reasons are pretty understandable given that the United States is still in pandemic and LeBron is in the NBA bubble away from both his family back in Los Angeles and his mother, who he hasn’t been able to see since the pandemic began.
Here’s what he said about his reasoning for eschewing the social media blackout, as transcribed by USA TODAY’s Scott Gleeson.
“It’s definitely going to have a different mindset, different feel to it,” James told reporters on a video conference call. “I won’t be turning my phone off during this run. I can’t afford to. I have to continue to check in with my family every single day. … I can’t afford to do that, just lose direct contact with everybody.”
Obviously, the current situation is an unprecedented moment in NBA history, so most can understand why LeBron is handling things a little differently this time around.
