LeBron James trolled himself over being notoriously cheap by saying he won’t play for Twitter checkmark

LeBron, like so many others, won’t pay for a Twitter blue checkmark.

Give LeBron James credit here.

He knows the jokes and stories from over the years about how he’s cheap. And he’s leaning right into them with the news that Twitter will reportedly remove blue checkmarks from accounts and ask users to pay for them in order to get them back.

James tweeted on Friday that “if you know me, I ain’t paying the 5 [dollars].”

And we do know James. This is the same LeBron who Dwyane Wade ripped on for not dealing with data roaming when there’s no WiFi. The same James who didn’t pay for commercial-free Pandora despite the fact that he’s made all the money in his storied career:

So, yeah. That tracks.
