Bronny James, by coming to USC, will dramatically elevate the profile of the men’s basketball program. This much is easy to grasp. We get this. LeBron James’ son, a top recruit and a realistic 2024 NBA draft prospect, was going to make a splash for the school which successfully recruited him. It would have been true at Oregon. It would have been true at Ohio State. USC, though, won out.

Obviously, there are some aspects of USC — as a school, and as an institution located in a particular place — which Oregon and Ohio State couldn’t offer. Several details, not just LeBron James, explain why USC hoops is going to become a much bigger media-magnet college program this coming season.
