LeBron James admitted previously this season that he didn’t personally know Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant. After Friday night, that may no longer be the case.
James and the Los Angeles Lakers hosted Morant and the Grizzlies as the four-time NBA MVP walked away with the 117-105 victory. James went off for 32 points and seven assists while Morant had 17 points and three assists in the loss.
Afterward, the two embraced each other as the TV cameras captured the exchange at Staples Center. The moment proved to be quite a scene, pitting arguably the greatest player of all-time next to the upstart rookie.

James said in October that he was relatively unfamiliar with Morant but added that his two sons, Bronny and Bryce, both love watching Morant play and love his game.
“I don’t know him personally so I can’t say how great of a kid he is or not but he seems like a really good one,” James said on Oct. 30. “He seems like he loves the game. Both of my kids love him. They love his game.”
After inspiring so many over his time in the NBA, James will likely take solace in the fact that the league is in good hands with the likes of Morant, Zion Williamson and others leading the future of the sport.
