On Friday night, LeBron James defied age once again, scoring 50 points on unreal efficiency to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a much-needed win over the Washington Wizards.
Something else that continues to defy age is the video game “NBA Jam,” which came out in arcades across our nation and for many gaming consoles in 1993.
You remember it, right? The game where you can throw down gravity-defying dunks and get “on fire?”
Well, when James was on fire against the Wizards on Sunday, he almost felt like he was playing a real-life version of “NBA Jam,” he admitted right after the contest.

When James is on with his outside shot, he certainly does resemble a video game — with a cheat code.
This season has been like a cheat code for the four-time MVP to prevent Father Time from doing what he always seems to do to athletes by the time they reach James’ age of 37. His 50-point performance put him in first place in scoring in the league by a hair over Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.
In the postgame media conference, James gave more insight into his experience playing “NBA Jam.”

“To be able to catch fire is something that you definitely would try to do,” James said. “As soon as you hit that half-court line, you would let it go.”
Let’s hope that it will not be game over for the Lakers this season until sometime deep into June.
