Lakers fans will have to wait a little longer to see LeBron James don a uniform once again.
James was expected to return on Wednesday night against the Houston Rockets after reportedly feeling great in workouts, but the four-time MVP updated his status hours before the game in a tweet.
James wrote that he’s “getting close,” but won’t be in the lineup as the Lakers face the second half of a back-to-back.
He likely won’t be missed against a struggling Rockets team that has the worst record in the NBA – but with only three games remaining in the regular season and the Lakers facing a potential play-in game, an argument can be made that James could have used the minutes to prepare his game for the playoffs.
Getting close but I won’t be in the lineup tonight but more importantly I will be there to put that CHAMPIONSHIP banner in the rafters at Staples Center in front of our fans!! #No17 💜💛

Wednesday’s game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. PT on Spectrum SportsNet.
