We’re only one game into the 2020-21 NBA Finals but I think it’s safe to say that LeBron James and the Lakers are going to roll to the title.
And it’s going to be over pretty quickly.
The Lakers put on a dominant showing in Game 1 on Wednesday after falling behind by 13 points at one point in the first quarter. They then went on a 70-31 run and had the game pretty much in hand by halftime.
The Lakers led by 17 at the break, 26 after three quarters and then both teams plodded through the fourth quarter knowing how this game, and likely series, would end. For the record the final score was 116-98 but it never felt that close.
LeBron, who has a great reason for wanting to wrap this thing up as quickly as possible, and Anthony Davis were once the again the leaders of a team that is just better than every other team that made the trip to the bubble in Orlando.
That’s what happen when you have the two best players in the league who can do so many different things.
And that’s what happens when those two players will do whatever it takes to win a championship.
This game and series shouldn’t be about what the Heat can’t do, but rather what the Lakers can. Above everything, the Lakers play some serious defense and are unlike any of the three teams Miami beat to get here.
This series is likely going to be a fast one, though I’ve been wrong a lot in my life. What hurts the Heat even more are the injuries suffered by Bam Adebayo (shoulder) and Goran Dragić (ankle), who both left Game 1 and didn’t return.
Even if those guys are able to return for Game 2, things aren’t going to be easy at all for Miami. Seeing the gear that LeBron and Co. kicked it into midway through the first quarter of Game 1 showed just how special this team is and how much of a challenge the Heat, who have been a very fun team in Orlando, face moving forward.
This Finals is LeBron’s to win.
And that’s just what he’s going to do, as quickly as possible – which shouldn’t be too hard at all.
