Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James had 20 points, while the Lakers saw Anthony Davis leave the game in the first quarter after being poked in the eye, but it was truly their reserves who stole the show in Saturday afternoon’s scrimmage game against the Orlando Magic.
Davis is considered “day-to-day” moving forward, while James again looked like he has not missed a step since the season went on hiatus. However, the players who all had the most memorable performances came from the Lakers bench, starting with Kyle Kuzma, who had a team-high 25 points and seven rebounds. Unlike the first scrimmage the Lakers played in, Saturday’s scrimmage a standard 48-minute game.
Kuzma had 16 of his 25 in the first half. Kuzma started the second half in place of Davis.

New acquisition J.R. Smith also made his first highlight as a member of the Lakers, serving up a beautiful lob pass to Dwight Howard for a dunk.

Then in the 4th quarter, Dion Waiters put the finishing touches on the Lakers win.

Obviously, there is some concern for the Lakers about Anthony Davis’ eye. However, it would be hard to watch this scrimmage on Saturday and not feel good about how they’ve looked in their first two of three no-stakes runs against other NBA teams in the Walt Disney World bubble.
