UNC basketball forward[autotag] Leaky Black [/autotag]opted to return for the fifth year and take advantage of the COVID-19 rule for the 2022-23 season. The graduate student is coming off an impressive 2021-22 campaign and now he’s looking to make an impact again this year.
Black will be a starter for Hubert Davis’ squad this season and while the offensive stats are eye-popping, his defense is among the best in the country.
Going into this season, Black is earning some recognition as a ‘glue guy’ in a lineup. College Hoops Today’s Jon Rothstein put together his list of the 10 best glue guys in the game and right there near the top is Black:
Leaky Black, North Carolina: He doesn’t get the same ink as R.J. Davis, Caleb Love, and Armando Bacot, but there’s absolutely no way that North Carolina reaches the national title game last spring without Black. The 6-8 wing scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Final Four against Duke all while holding A.J. Griffin to six points and just seven shot attempts. Black’s versatility, steadiness, and willingness to embrace his role balances all of the blue chip talent in the Tar Heels’ program.
There’s no denying Black’s talent. He’s a guy that defines the ‘glue guy’ mentality and without him, UNC doesn’t get to the Final Four a year ago.
Black played a big role in that journey including shutting down some of the opposing team’s top options game after game. And he’s expected to have that role again this year.
