LB [autotag]Devin White[/autotag] isn’t skipping out on mandatory minicamp, but he may not be fully participating, either.
Greg Auman reported on Tuesday that White was in attendance for Tampa Bay’s mandatory minicamp, which will go for three days and serve as the last offseason activity before training camp later in the year. His appearance comes after he took part in a voluntary team photoshoot on Monday.
While there are still two days left of camp after Tuesday, it’s possible that White may be employing a strategy known as “holding in.” Holding in occurs when players attend mandatory team activities but do not participate, thus avoiding fines for attendance but sending a message about contract disputes or other matters through their lack of participation.
There is still time for White to practice for the next two days, so it isn’t fully clear that this is his intention, but his actions Tuesday could be pointing in that direction. Alternatively, as Auman pointed out, the team could simply be resting him after he hasn’t been participating in optional activities for months.
Folks, it’s reasonable to think if a player hasn’t done anything for months, it isn’t ideal to throw him out Day 1 and practice with people who’ve been doing it several days a week. Not everything is a protest. https://t.co/RtI4zTYXxB

White’s attendance comes amid a continuing public saga in which he asked for a trade in April due to a contract dispute. White is currently on his fifth-year option and is set to make $11.7 million in 2023.
