Lawyer Milloy inducted into the Washington Sports Hall of Fame

Washington legend Lawyer Milloy has been immortalized in the Washington Sports Hall of Fame.

Former Washington Huskies standout Lawyer Milloy has been immortalized in his home state after he was inducted into the Washington Sports Hall of Fame. The two-time All-Pro safety was recognized with the latest class of honorees before a Mariners game at T-Mobile Park earlier this month.

Milloy was a multi-sport star athlete at Tacoma’s Lincoln High School, where he was pursued by many colleges to play football, and drafted to play baseball during his senior year by the now Cleveland Guardians.

He ended up committing to Washington, where he was a unanimous All-American, earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors, and was awarded the Jack Tatum Trophy in 1995. During that time, he also played three seasons for the Huskies baseball team, leading them to the NCAA regional finals in 1994 before he was drafted again, this time by the Detroit Tigers, in round No. 19. 

Considered one of the top safeties in the nation, he declared for the 1996 NFL Draft and was drafted by the New England Patriots with the No. 36 overall pick. He spent several years with the Patriots and won helped the organization win its first championship at Super Bowl XXXVI in an upset victory over the St. Louis Rams.

During his time in the NFL, he was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. After being a second-team selection in 1998, Milloy was named to the All-Pro first-team in 1999. His career spanned 15 seasons, playing for the Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons, and Seattle Seahawks.
