LaVar Ball plans to target top NFL, NBA draft picks for Big Baller Brand deals

With LaMelo and Lonzo remaining distant from the company, LaVar Ball says he’ll start looking elsewhere for athletes to endorse.

With Big Baller Brand relaunching without much involvement from Lonzo and LaMelo Ball to date, LaVar Ball has already stated he intends on adding other players to the brand. While many may have assumed that meant fellow NBA players and prospects, Ball isn’t limiting himself to one sport.

During an interview with TMZ, Ball was asked if he was seeking out athletes to endorse the brand to which he revealed big plans for the future.

“That’s exactly what I’m going to do. That’s where people get shook up at. They don’t think that I’m going to do the same thing as any other sports apparel. You’re going to endorse and you’re going to get some guys to do some things.

“You will definitely hear about me for the next draft for the NBA and NFL. I will approach these guys who are going to be the No. 1 and No. 2 picks that people are going to make the head of their franchise.”

Seeking out NFL players could be a big market for Ball and the brand. As the country’s most popular sport, even a mildly popular player in the NFL will get more attention than someone mildly popular in the NBA.

The problem will be getting the first person both in the NFL and NBA to make the leap and put their faith in a company that hasn’t done a lot to warrant having that faith. Within the last 16 months, the company had a massive scandal that nearly led to the closure of the brand and did lead to both LaMelo and Lonzo to look elsewhere.

It’ll be a tough sell for LaVar to get other players, no matter the sport, to join a brand not even his sons seem committed to currently. But all it takes is one person to make the leap and open the door for others to follow suit and if Ball can ink a top prospect, it changes the entire outlook of the brand.
