While there has been talk about what LaMelo Ball’s purchase means for him and his future, there is another aspect that could be a huge bonus for the Ball family. Big Baller Brand, which relaunched in recent months, could serve as one of Illawarra’s sponsors should Ball and his consortium complete its purchase.
LaVar Ball was asked about the brand serving as a sponsor for the franchise should LaMelo buy the franchise during his interview with TMZ.
“That would be probably one of the main things to do. That’s like a no-brainer. If you got your own team, why wouldn’t I sponsor and have you with Big Baller Brand uniform, shoes, sweats. If I can give you all the stuff, that’s a win-win situation. They don’t have to wait on anybody and I got you covered…It would be the next best step.”
The logistics of Big Baller Brand could be tricky. Only a handful of weeks ago did the NBL announce Champion as the new jersey sponsors for the league as a whole. The route, though, could be Big Baller Brand serving as a supplementary sponsor on the Hawks’ jersey.
But Big Baller Brand would almost certainly have a role with the franchise should LaMelo want the brand to have one. LaMelo has kept his own brand deals up in the air as he assesses his own options moving forward. Depending on the timing of not only his shoe deals but other brands, Ball and the Hawks could be treated as a package deal in pitches to brands.
It’s one of many interesting aspects of Ball’s potential purchase of the franchise and could lead to the revival of Big Baller Brand.
