Latest update on Mike Vrabel head coaching job search

Mike Vrabel is free to take head coaching job interviews. Should the Patriots be interested?

Mike Vrabel’s consulting contract with the Cleveland Browns has expired, and he is now free to start interviewing for an NFL coaching job, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

After being fired by the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel accepted an opportunity as a consultant on Kevin Stefanski’s coaching staff. He served as the head coach for the Titans from 2018-2023.

The Titans made three consecutive playoff appearances under Vrabel before suffering back-to-back losing seasons. There should be multiple teams interested in Vrabel’s services. Some have wondered if the Patriots could be one of those teams considering Vrabel’s ties with the organization.

He was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2023. During his eight-year run with the team, he won three Super Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection in 2007.

Following hanging up the cleats, he began his coaching career as a linebackers coach with Ohio State in 2011 and stayed with the program until 2013. He then served as linebackers coach and the defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans from 2014-2017.

One has to wonder if teams with head coaching vacancies, such as the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints or New York Jets will be interested in his services. Time will tell if New England ends up in that mix as well.
