The speculation is only going to ramp up from here. We are about a month away from the 2020 NFL Combine and approximately 3 months away from the 2020 NFL Draft — which means we’ve entered a time filled with misinformation, speculation and projections. It’s a high stress time to be a Miami Dolphins fan — there’s so much riding on the Dolphins finally turning this team around. If that’s going to happen, it needs to start with a strong offseason in 2020.
Which means every 2020 mock draft is going to be met with a critical eye from Dolphins fans, even more so than the typical fan.
Which is what makes the latest mock draft from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein so interesting — he had the Dolphins tripling down on offensive players. Here’s who he pegged for the Dolphins:
5. QB Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama
This pick should be of no surprise and you can expect to see it in just about every mock draft that is run between now and April unless someone trades spots with the Detroit Lions. Tagovailoa’s medicals are the big mystery but he’s far and away the favorite to be Miami’s quarterback of choice.
18. RB D’Andre Swift, Georgia
This one raises some eyebrows. Do the Dolphins need an upgrade in the running game? Yes, absolutely. Does drafting a running back with a top-20 selection with so many other positions of need make a great deal of sense? It wouldn’t be a popular pick given the depth of the running back class in 2020.
26. OT Josh Jones, Houston
Jones is a developmental prospect who showed his physical tools at the 2020 Senior Bowl last week in Mobile. He’s a promising talent but he’s also not a plug and play starter — at least not without some initial struggles. In a perfect world, Miami gets a more clear finished product to plug in at tackle.
