The San Antonio Spurs have the No. 4 pick in the 2024 NBA draft as they look to build the right way around superstar Victor Wembanyama. They have a generational talent and now need to make the right moves around him.
If the Spurs can nail down this 2024 offseason, then they will put themselves in a position to at least make the play-in in the 2024-25 season. The Western Conference continues to grow in the number of contenders and San Antonio can easily make that jump with Wembanyama leading the way.
One area that needs to be addressed is point guard. A mock draft put together by FOX Sports has the Spurs selecting Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham:
There’s a world where he goes 1st overall, mostly since he’s probably the best pure scorer in this draft. He’s Kyrie Irving’s size. Only 19, he shot 44 percent on 3-pointers as a freshman.
In his freshman season at Kentucky, Dillingham averaged 15.2 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 44.4% from deep in 2023-24. He can run a pick-and-roll and one has to believe that he and Wembanyama can become a terrific duo as the Spurs continue to move forward with their rebuild.
