Just a few weeks ago, Enoch Boakye announced his decommitment from the Spartans and now it seems 2022 No. 1 overall prospect Emoni Bates is trending that way, too. Reports are coming out that Bates is expected to go to the G League over Michigan State before the NBA draft. Notable top prospects to go that route include Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix.

This doesn’t come as a complete surprise. Bates is a highly talented prospect and is looking out for his best interests and is trying to secure the best future for himself.

If he does go the G League route, this would be a huge hit to the 2022 class that previously had two five star prospects committed to the program. The big difference is the payment. He will get paid playing in the G League, unlike at MSU. Many Spartans fans are holding out hope he stays with the Spartans and offer valid points why he should stay.

The pros for staying at MSU include more exposure. For example, who do you hear about more: Hunter Dickinson or Isaiah Todd? You get more exposure at college, but you don’t get the money or go against more NBA-ready talent in the G League. It will be really interesting to see what Bates selects for his future.
