- LSU jumps to number-one and who can really complain? They have the best resume of any team in the country with wins over three teams in the top-12 and the most impressive win in the nation after going into Tuscaloosa and beating Alabama.
- No surprises at two or three, Ohio State falling after destroying Maryland would be odd had LSU beaten anyone besides Alabama last week but who in their right mind can not give LSU the nod after what they’ve done. At three this week I’ll say what I said last week again, I know the ACC is mostly-trash but Clemson has been firing on all cylinders the last five weeks, again looking entirely the part of Clemson we’ve grown accustom to watching.
- Georgia is rated over Alabama. Does anyone in their right mind actually think Georgia is a better football team outside of Athens? Georgia has a win over No. 11 Auburn, Alabama’s top win comes over, uhh, Texas A&M? There’s your reason, even if the Bulldogs loss to South Carolina is laughable when compared to the Tide’s to LSU. Either way, in order to have a shot at this thing, both of those teams must win-out from here, with Georgia getting a tough task at Auburn this week. This is noteworthy as it appears quality-wins are valued more than bad-losses at this point. Remember that as this process goes on the next few weeks.
- Oregon and Utah come in at six and seven, respectively. With three SEC teams ahead of them that means Ducks fans have to become Utes fans and Utes fans have to be Ducks fans until the Pac-12 Championship. Both appear to be skating on thin ice in the committee’s eyes and will need as impressive of win as possible at the end of the season.
- Minnesota at eight still controls their own destiny but they finally get that big-win and move all the way up…eight. They win out they’re going to the tournament so it’s not a huge to-do but they’re not exactly shown a ton of love despite having a better win on their resume now by beating Penn State than Oregon, Utah, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson or Ohio State currently have on theirs.
