Latest 2020 mock draft lands Dolphins a loaded class

Each and every week, wave after wave of mock drafts flood the internet, probably and exploring every possible scenario for how April’s NFL Draft might actually turn out. Some are well reasoned. Others are wild and wacky. And they’ll all mostly be wrong. But seeing what combinations teams could have at their disposal is the entire appeal. And mock drafts certainly do that well.

The latest mock draft of interest to Dolphins fans comes from Dolphins Wire’s own Kyle Crabbs; posted this morning at The Draft Network.

Crabbs’ mock draft runs three rounds deep and gives the Dolphins a ton of playmakers to add to the roster. Here’s how things shook out:

5. QB Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama

18. Rush LB K’Lavon Chaisson, LSU

26. OT Josh Jones, Houston

39. RB JK Dobbins, Ohio State

56. SAF Jeremy Chinn, Southern Illinois

70. CB Damon Arnette, Ohio State

This cumulative class could feasibly land the Dolphins 6 long-term starters out of a single draft class, a mind-numbing total that would assuredly get this team kickstarted into competition if all players met their potential.

And Crabbs’ draft class is pointed towards a blend of upside and refinement as well — playing into the perceived strengths of Brian Flores and their coaching staff from a player development standpoint. Chaisson, Jones and Chinn are all high-ceiling players who need some TLC and coaching to take their games to the next level. But they can be impact starters if they fulfill their physical ability.

At quarterback, the Dolphins chose Tagovailoa over Justin Herbert and Jordan Love — but just as importantly they committed to waiting out the first four picks and did not commit to trading up, a move that the Dolphins seem to be trending towards as we inch closer to April’s NFL Draft.
