Relief pitcher Redmond Walsh’s defensive miscue left the door open for Georgia to come from behind and capture a victory.
After Walsh committed the error, Cole Tate came up with a two-run walk-off single, lifting the No. 7 Bulldogs to a 5-4 win over the No. 10 Tennessee at Foley Field in Athens.
Tennessee (16-4, 1-1 SEC) took a 2-0 lead out of the gate as Drew Gilbert had an RBI single in the top of the first inning. Luc Lipcius drove in another run when he drew a walk with the bases loaded.
The Bulldogs (14-4, 1-1) pulled to within 2-1 in the third when Tate drove in Georgia’s first run with a sacrifice fly.
Georgia took a 3-2 lead in the sixth as Riley King and Chaney Rogers came up with back-to-back scoring singles.
The Vols regained the lead when Jake Rucker clubbed a two-run homer in the seventh.
