Larian Studios, makers of the hit RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2, launched a surprise prequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 that you can play in your browser for free as long as you have a Larian account. The prequel is called Blood in Baldur’s Gate, and it’s a collaborative murder mystery game where everyone votes on what happens next.

The style isn’t entirely dissimilar to what Genvid has in store for Silent Hill Ascension, which also evolves based on player choice.

Blood in Baldur’s Gate drops new clues, locations, and developments every day, with detailed descriptions of what you’ll potentially find in every new locale.

Players vote on where to go next, and the mystery unfolds from there. How it unfolds remains, well, a mystery, since in its opening days, Blood in Baldur’s Gate only sends players to a couple of spots to investigate what’s taking place.

You have a satchel whose use remains unknown for now, and based on the date markers at the bottom of the screen, it looks like the game will last for a little over a month. If so, that’ll put the finale at the end of July, just a month shy of Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch on Aug. 31, 2023. How the prequel ties in tto main game and its villains, including Jason Isaacs’ Enver Gortash, we’ll just have to wait and see.
