Landry Shamet on Nets’ failed comeback: ‘We were right there’

Landry Shamet reacts to the Nets’ loss to the Magic.

Friday night’s game against the Orlando Magic is one to forget for the Brooklyn Nets. The squad trailed by as many as 19 and heading into the final period that was the deficit. Brooklyn cut the lead to only four with seven minutes left in the final period, but the Magic held on to snap Brooklyn’s winning streak.

After the game Landry Shamet smiled just thinking about it.

“We were right there.”

Right when it got to four, the Magic just kept hitting shot after shot while Brooklyn kept missing shot after shot. Many of these shots were wide open for players like Joe Harris, Landry Shamet himself, Jeff Green, and James Harden. The run that sparked a comeback for the Nets caused Orlando to call consecutive timeouts in a span of five minutes to start off the fourth quarter.

Shamet highlighted that in those timeouts, “we were telling each other hey, we’re in this game.”

There was no doubt at any point that this team thought the game was out of hand. In the end, the Nets’ determination was on full display to get the deficit to just four with so much time left. This is something they will learn from and most definitely something to keep in mind if they ever get in a similar situation in the future.
