Landry Shamet: Basketball is ‘what we use to get away from everything’

Landry Shamet says basketball is ‘what we use to get away from everything that is going on.’

Landry Shamet had a lot to say after a big game against the Minnesota Timberwolves amidst all the drama going on in Minnesota, where he finished with 19 points. The former Shocker touched on how crazy the season has been for not just players, but for everyone around the world. Shamet said, “It’s a weird year. So much has happened in 365 days — A lot has happened in this short time.”

Coping with the coronavirus, dealing with police brutality and racism, and overall just the organization this compressed NBA season has been so “weird” like Shamet pointed out. Through it all though, he said basketball is “what we use to get away from everything that is going on.”

Whether it’s his fellow teammates on the Nets, the staff, the reporters, the referees, the coaches, well the list goes on: One common thing is shared amongst everyone and that is the love for basketball. And because of it, people are certainly able to get away from what is going on.
